Elon Musk Suffers Setback As SpaceX’s Starship Explodes After Takeoff

SpaceX’s Starship exploded after takeoff in the second launch failure of 2025 for Elon Musk.

SpaceX was however able to return its first-stage booster to the Launchpad after catching it in its giant mechanical “chopsticks” following the incident on March 6.

SpaceX’s live stream showed the Starship spacecraft spinning in space minutes after its liftoff.

Aljazeera reported that the launch took place from the company’s launch site in Boca Chica, Texas.

Footage shared on social media showed debris streaking across the skies of South Florida and the Bahamas as the remnants of the starship reentered the earth’s atmosphere.

The US aviation regulator also said it had started a probe to find out the root cause of the explosion. It also hopes to find out corrective actions to prevent such an incident from happening again.

The mixed outcome comes after SpaceX’s seventh test flight in January ended with the mid-flight breakup of the Starship.

In a statement after the failed launch, SpaceX explained that the starship rapidly disassembled before contact was severed.

Elon Musk's activities in Ghana

Starlink, Elon Musk's satellite internet service commenced operations in Ghana in August 2024.

In April 2024, the government gave Starlink authorisation to operate in Ghana as Space X Starlink GH LTD.

This followed Starlink's completion of all administrative and licensing procedures with the authority.

It costs GH¢5,390 to set up the Starlink hardware, while a monthly subscription costs GH¢770.

There is also a service plan for businesses starting at GH¢1,078 per month with a hardware cost of GH¢44,275.
