Ghana football icon Dan Owusu sat down with YEN.com.gh’s Gariba Raubil for an exclusive chat, where he shared valuable insights on what it will take for Kudus to fulfill his immense potential.
Ghana Premier League legend Owusu, widely considered the greatest attacking player in the league’s history, believes Mohammed Kudus must focus on three key areas to reach the top of his game at Tottenham Hotspur.
Kudus needs to be more consistent
While the young midfielder has outstanding talent and technical ability, sustaining that level week in and week out, especially in a physically and mentally demanding league like the Premier League, remains a challenge.
Owusu stresses that for Kudus to truly excel, he must find a way to deliver high-level performances consistently, regardless of the opposition.
“Consistency is key at the highest level. The best players are the ones who perform consistently, no matter the team they face. Kudus has all the talent, but he needs to produce every game and not just in flashes. That is what separates the great players from the good ones.''
Kudus' productivity in front of goal
Owusu’s second piece of advice is for Kudus to become more productive in front of goal.
While Kudus Mohammed, voted Ghana Footballer of the Year in 2023, according to Wikipedia, has shown that he can create chances and contribute to the buildup of attacks, Owusu believes that a midfielder of his calibre should also be contributing more in terms of goals and assists.
According to Transfermarkt, Mohammed Kudus scored 5 goals and provided 4 assists in 35 matches in all competitions for West Ham United last season, and in the new term, he has 2 assists in his first league game already.
“In today’s game, midfielders are expected to contribute goals and assists. Kudus needs to be more involved in the final third, getting on the scoresheet more regularly and creating chances for others.
"That’s one of the main qualities that separates good players from truly great ones. Against Burnley, he was clearly in top form, but the fact remains that he hasn’t been scoring much lately. That’s another important area he needs to improve.”
For Kudus, whom Dan Owusu backs to succeed at Spurs, becoming a more prolific scorer will require him to develop his positioning, timing, and finishing ability.
The Ghanaian midfielder has the talent to become a goal-scoring threat as he showed during the Black Stars of Ghana's recent World Cup qualifying victory over Madagascar.
Kudus' work ethic
Lastly, the Ghana icon advises Kudus to outwork his teammates, particularly his white counterparts, to truly prove his worth.
The former Bofoakwa Tano and Asante Kotoko player highlighted that Kudus has the physical tools, but his work ethic must match his potential if he is to elevate his game to an elite level.
“Mohammed Kudus needs to put in the extra work, particularly by pushing himself beyond his teammates,” Owusu said. “If he wants to become truly unplayable, he must outwork his rivals both on and off the pitch.”
Mohamed Kudus has the talent to emerge as one of the most thrilling players in the Premier League and Champions League this season. However, as Owusu points out, achieving that status will require greater consistency, an improved end product, and a relentless work ethic.

By honing these aspects of his game, Kudus can continue his rise to prominence and make a significant impact at Tottenham.
Kudus outshines Nuno Mendes
YEN.com.gh previously reported that Mohammed Kudus delivered a standout performance in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup, where he outclassed Paris Saint-Germain's Nuno Mendes.
The Ghanaian midfielder impressed with his exceptional skill, pace, and physicality, particularly in one-on-one duels with the Portuguese defender. Kudus repeatedly outpaced and overpowered Mendes, showcasing his dominance in individual battles and reaffirming his status as a rising star.
