Brock Lesnar made a jaw-dropping return at SummerSlam on Sunday night, July 3, interrupting the post-match aftermath of the main event between John Cena and Cody Rhodes.

For two years, Lesnar had been notably absent from WWE programming, with his silence linked to explosive legal allegations connected to Vince McMahon’s ongoing lawsuit.

His sudden re-emergence, complete with his signature theme music echoing through MetLife Stadium, has re-ignited debates, divided fans, and sparked new scrutiny.

The McMahon lawsuit

Lesnar’s name came up repeatedly in court documents tied to a disturbing lawsuit filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant against Vince McMahon.

According to Mail Sport, while Lesnar is not a defendant, the suit accuses McMahon of using Grant as a “sexual pawn” to secure Lesnar’s continued loyalty to WWE during contract negotiations in 2021.

Grant alleges that McMahon instructed her to send explicit content to Lesnar, claiming he liked what he saw.

The complaint also mentions a planned in-person meeting that never resulted in a physical encounter, allegedly due to Lesnar being intoxicated.

Though these accusations are serious and unsettling, Lesnar has not issued a public comment, and WWE has yet to officially clarify his status or address the backlash.

Brock Lesnar returns to WWE

According to Sports Illustrated, Lesnar’s return came moments after Cena’s emotional loss to Cody Rhodes.

As Cena saluted the crowd, possibly in what might have been his final televised match, Lesnar’s music hit, drawing a deafening roar from the New Jersey crowd. The moment, while thrilling to many, quickly became polarising.

Meanwhile, WWE’s decided to cancel live post-show press conferences with local media, an apparent attempt to avoid tough questions about Lesnar’s return and his connection to the lawsuit.

Instead, WWE opted for a controlled environment with in-house personalities conducting the interviews.

“Canceling the pressers to avoid questions about Brock is absolute coward s***,” one comment read, highlighting the lack of transparency in the wake of serious allegations.

During WWE’s updated post-show stream, fans outside MetLife Stadium could be heard chanting, “We want Brock!”

Executive and former champion Paul “Triple H” Levesque responded:

“You want Brock? You’ve got him,” signalling that Lesnar’s return is not a one-off but part of future plans.

Lesnar’s path forward in WWE remains unclear, though his confrontation with Cena may be planting seeds for a major storyline. Whether WWE chooses to address the public backlash or continue operating in silence is yet to be seen.

Fans react to Lesnar's WWE return

For some fans, the return of one of WWE’s most dominant figures was a triumphant moment. Others, however, view it as a tone-deaf move given the ongoing legal battle involving McMahon and the allegations surrounding Lesnar’s name.

Online reactions reflected that divide. One fan passionately defended Lesnar’s return, writing:

“If you’re complaining about Brock Lesnar’s return, stop watching. Otherwise, you’re a hypocrite.”

In contrast, another fan fired back, saying,

“We as a society have moved past the need for Brock Lesnar.”

During a conversation with YEN.com, Akufo Idan, a famous Ghanaian martial arts fanatic says he cannot wait to see Lesnar fight in WWE again.

''You know Lesnar is one of those wrestlers you never want to miss and for me his return would be a huge boost for the WWE.''
