NDC MP Who Won Adansi Asokwa Seat Says People Dash Him Cash For Kicking KT Hammond From Parliament

Adansi Asokwa MP Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi-Dorani has said his election victory over K.T. Hammond continues to earn him acclaim in his district.
Dorgbadzi-Dorani said the people in his constituency considered his victory a liberation from Hammond.

"They ask, Are you the one who overthrew KT Hammond? When I respond in the affirmative, I am given a token to buy fuel."
The MP was speaking after a high court threw out the election petition Hammond filed against him.
Why KT Hammond's election petition was dismissed
Hammond filed his election petition at the Obuasi High Court on January 15, 2025.

His election petition was struck out by the court after he failed to appear on three consecutive occasions.
The court further imposed a fine of GH¢60,000 on the former MP.
Justice Kwabena Twumasi, the presiding judge, described the petition as a waste of the court’s time.
About the Adansi Asokwa election
Hammond lost the Adansi Asokwa seat to Dorani in the 2024 general elections by 954 votes. He had been an MP for 24 years.
The National Democratic Congress candidate secured 14,229 votes, while Hammond polled 13,275.
Hammond filed a petition at the High Court on January 15, 2025, challenging the outcome of the poll after expressing dissatisfaction.
He, however, failed to appear in court on three occasions, leading to the court’s dismissal of the case.
About KT Hammond's political career
Hammond became a member of parliament for the first time in January 2001 after emerging winner in the General Election on 7 December 2000.
He has since then had a run of five consecutive terms representing Adansi-Asokwa in Parliament.
Hammond was a member of the Finance Committee, Mines and Energy Committee, as well as the Local Government and Rural Development Committee of the eighth Parliament of the 4th Republic.

In February 2023, following the resignation of Alan Kyerematen as Minister for Trade and Industries, Nana Akufo-Addo appointed him Minister for Trade and Industries.
In March 2023, Parliament approved his nomination, and he was subsequently sworn into office.
Hammond also served as Deputy Energy Minister in the John Kufuor administration from 2001 to 2007.
In 2023, he told Parliament's appointments committee that Ghana's discovery of oil in commercial quantities in 2007 was his biggest achievement.
Captain Smart sued by KT Hammond
YEN.com.gh reported that Hammond sued broadcaster Blessed Godsbrain Smart, aka Captain Smart, over alleged derogatory comments.
The comments were said to have been made during a broadcast on Media General's Onua TV.
This suit stems from Captain Smart's claims that Hammond made ethnocentric remarks about a candidate in the Adansi Asokwa parliamentary election.
