Helicopter Crash: Ghana Air Force Donates GH¢315,000 to Families of the Three Fallen Crew Members

The Ghana Air Force (GAF) and the Military High Command have demonstrated their commitment to supporting the families of three fallen flight crew members who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The crew members, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, were among eight prominent Ghanaians who lost their lives in the horrific helicopter crash.

Following the state funeral and military burial held on Friday, August 15, 2025, a donation of GH¢315,000 was presented to the bereaved families.

The donation was made possible through the generosity of various well-wishers and companies who rallied behind the Ghana Air Force and the Military High Command to support the families of the fallen crew members.

A presentation ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces in Accra on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, where the families of the three crew members were presented with the donation.

This gesture showcases the strong sense of camaraderie and solidarity within the military community.

During the ceremony, a representative of the Ghana Armed Forces stated that the presentation is a one-off cash donation which will go to the widows, the surviving parents, and the extended families of the helicopter crash victims.

Other victims of the helicopter crash

The military helicopter, identified as a Z-9, crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

It claimed the lives of eight people, including two Ministers of State, three government officials, and three crew members.

Aside from the three crew members, the other victims of the tragic helicopter crash were Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah; the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Limuna Muniru; former Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Samuel Sarpong; and former NDC Parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye.

The eight victims were given a state burial on August 15, with the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, and the families of the victims in attendance.

GAF commended for supporting the victims' families

Following the donation, some Ghanaians on social media commended GAF for supporting the families of the three crew members.
