He was subsequently arrested on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, alongside the North Tongu Constituency women’s organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yayra Abiwu.
However, after spending five days in police custody, Fante Comedy was released on Monday, August 18, 2025.

His release was met with pomp and pageantry, sparking excitement among social media activists of the opposition NPP.
In a video that circulated on social media, Fante Comedy was seen at the office of Dr Bawumia, the NPP's presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.
The former Vice President warmly welcomed the TikTok star from police cells with a deep hug amid exchange of pleasantries.
However, this gesture by Dr Bawumia attracted the fiercest of criticism from Oliver Barker-Vormawor.
Taking to his Facebook page, Mr Barker-Vormawor suggested that it was worrying to see the former Vice President appearing to be endorsing what Fante Comedy is alleged to have said.
"I have seen videos of Fante Comedy, one of the Tiktokers arrested for saying they will behead the First Lady and kill the President. He was in a warm embrace with the former Vice President Bawumia, receiving a hero's welcome. Mr Comedy has also now given media interviews saying that just one call from the former Vice President saw to it that his jail was changed to a better one. I have been thinking deeply about what these incidents mean, I have come up short. So I will leave it to right-thinking members of our community to comment on," he wrote
"I know this, though. In some countries, the second claim will lead to serious questions being asked of the police establishment. But I hear that in Ghana, the Opposition is actually in Government. Same way, in some countries, that warm embrace will be damaging to a presidential hopeful’s image. But in Ghana, the other presidential hopeful in the same party is linked to the killing of a journalist. He is still a frontrunner. Anyway, I thank God for granting me the serenity to accept the things I do not understand," he added.
