EOCO, which is currently led by Raymond Archer, an ace investigative journalist, is mandated to monitor, investigate and prosecute economic and organised crime, as well as recover proceeds of crime.
It is a specialised agency set up to investigate crimes that cause financial or economic harm to the state, such as money laundering, illegal cyber activities and terrorism financing.
With this appointment, Daniel Domelevo, a professional accountant, is expected to utilise his extensive experience to help EOCO execute its mandate effectively.
In 2016, he was appointed by President John Mahama to serve as Auditor-General of Ghana, during the Head of State's first, non-consecutive term in office.
However, in 2020, he was compelled by former President Nana Akufo-Addo to take 169 working days of accumulated leave, which culminated in his dismissal.

Why Domelevo was asked to go on leave
Mr Domelevo was directed to proceed on leave after the then Senior Minister, Mr Osafo-Maafo, and four officials from the Ministry of Finance took legal action against him
The suit aimed to clear their names over alleged breaches of the Public Procurement Act (PPA), which involved a US$1 million payment to a UK-based firm, Kroll and Associates

Mr Osafo-Maafo explained that he turned to the courts because the available evidence indicated the Auditor-General had erred in law and professional conduct during his audit of the payments to Kroll and Associates Limited
Following this, the Centre for Democratic Development, along with eight other Civil Society Organisations, petitioned the Supreme Court to declare the President’s action unconstitutional, describing it as an affront to the independence of the office
In 2023, the Supreme Court ruled that the then-President Nana Akufo-Addo’s decision to force former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo to go on leave was unconstitutional.

"I want to assume that Daniel Yaw Domelevo has some integrity and wouldn't allow EOCO officials to abuse the law, and wouldn't want to superintend the same. He doesn't come across as vindictive but as one who genuinely wants to do the right thing. So help him God."
