The state funeral service for the late Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah and the other seven victims of the recent tragic helicopter crash was held at the Black Stars Square on Friday, August 15, 2025.

Many distinguished personalities, including President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and the current cabinet ministers, attended the funeral service.
Former Presidents Nana Akufo-Addo and John Agyekum Kufuor were also present at the Black Stars Square for the final funeral rites of the six remaining victims of the helicopter crash.
The children of the late Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Akua, Ama, and Yaw, also attended the funeral service with their mother, Rita Omane Boamah, and grandmother to bid farewell to their father.

During the funeral service at the Black Stars Square, the late Dr Edward Omane Boamah's three children shared an emotional tribute as they paid their last respects.

In the tribute read by the late Defence Minister's first child, Akua, she recounted her and her siblings' close relationship with their late father and the important role he played in their upbringing.
She said:
"A tribute to our hero. Daddy, we never imagined we would have to say goodbye so soon. You were more than a father to us. You were our safe place, our teacher, our greatest encourager, friend and above all, our example of what it means to live with integrity, humility and courage."
"You taught us that success was not just about what we achieved but about the lives we touched. You lived those words every single day, whether you were serving patients in the hospital, fighting for justice in the corridors of power, or lying on our beds after a long day at work for a quick talk, which almost always ended up putting you asleep."
"Your love was steady. Your guidance was gentle, and your laughter was the warmth that filled our home. Daddy, even with the weight of national duties on your shoulders, you always made time for us."
"You called us every day when you travelled. You never missed our important moments, and when you couldn't be there in person, you made us feel you were right beside us. You reminded us that family is not part of life. It is life. You taught us to dream big but stay grounded."

Helicopter makes emergency landing at Nkawkaw
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that a Volta River Aviation helicopter made an emergency landing near Nkawkaw bypass due to poor visibility and weather conditions.
The incident occurred days after a fatal military helicopter crash, raising national concerns about Ghana’s aviation safety standards.
Eyewitnesses said that the helicopter hovered near a school before landing safely, with no injuries reported from the passengers or crew.
