Captain Smart’s co-host, JB, has shared the alleged last words of the late National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong.

Samuel Sarpong was one of five high-ranking government functionaries who were killed in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6.

The group also included the Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Muniru Mohammed, and former NDC Obuasi East parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye.

They were all headed to Obuasi for an anti-illegal mining event.

Their helicopter disappeared off radar after takeoff from Accra towards the Ashanti Region and was later found to have crashed into the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi Afuokrom District.

Aside from the five government functionaries, three Air Force officers on board the helicopter also perished in the tragedy.

Samuel Sarpong’s alleged last words surface

In the wake of the deadly helicopter tragedy, JB, the co-host of Onua Maakye with Captain Smart, shared details of his alleged final conversation with Samuel Sarpong.

He claimed that the politician was unhappy over not receiving an appointment from the President, John Dramani Mahama.

JB said he asked him about that, and he replied that he did not know what else the President expected of him before giving him an appointment.

Giving Sarpong's alleged last words to him, JB stated they were 'I don’t even understand Mahama. Is he waiting for me to die before honouring me?'

Netizens have slammed the disclosure, calling out JB's words as unnecessary given that Sarpong had passed on, with the nation in mourning.

Asiedu Nketia speaks about Samuel Sarpong’s appointment

In the aftermath of Samuel Sarpong’s death, NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia spoke about the question of his lingering wait for a governmental appointment.

He said President Mahama had named him the Board Chairman of the Cocoa Processing Company and that he was to receive his appointment letter on the same day that he died.

Asiedu Nketia made the announcement during a visit to the family of the late NDC official.

Samuel Sarpong's son shares final communication

Previously, YEN.com.gh reported that Samuel Sarpong's son spoke about his father's final moments aboard the Z-9 helicopter.

Speaking at the memorial at the State House on August 9, he said his father messaged him shortly after embarking on the flight.

He said that he sent him and his siblings a photo of himself on board the helicopter, with a message that they had taken off.
