NCA Shuts Down Wontumi Radio in Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi
- The NCA has suspended the operations of several radio stations in Ghana, including Wontumi Multimedia, owned by Bernard Antwi-Boasiako
- The NCA stated in a press release on Tuesday that these media houses were operating without a Certificate of Compliance

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of some radio stations in Ghana, including Wontumi Multimedia, which belongs to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako.
In a statement released on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the NCA explained that the affected media houses have been operating without a Certificate of Compliance.

According to the NCA, this is in flagrant violation of Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations 2011, L.I. 1991.
Earlier this year, the NCA made a similar decision, suspending 62 radio stations, including Asaase Radio and Wontumi Radio, for violating their regulatory requirements.
Following this, President John Dramani Mahama intervened and directed the NCA and the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, led by Samuel Nartey George, to grant the affected media houses a 30-day grace period to remedy the violations.
The affected radio stations
However, the NCA stated that six radio stations out of the 62 refused to comply with the 30-day regulatory amnesty granted by President Mahama.
The six radio stations are:
- Don Plus Multimedia Limited (105.9) in Ho, Volta Region
- Dreams Ghana Media Limited (104.9) in New Abirem, Eastern Region
- Jam Multimedia Limited (101.3) in Kintampo, Bono East
- Jewel Group Limited (102.7) in Duayaw Nkwanta, Ahafo Region
- Kpandai Star Community Radio (107.3) in Kpandai, Volta Region
- Unique Gateway Communications Limited (105.7) in Nkwakwa, Eastern Region

The NCA also said while many of the defaulting stations took steps to remedy the breaches during the amnesty period, three stations failed to address some of the violations.
The three radio stations are:
- Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited (95.9), Accra
- Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited (101.3), Kumasi
- Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited (101.3), Takoradi
"Whereas many of the violating stations took steps to remedy the breaches during the amnesty period, three stations failed to address some of the violations, including the unauthorized use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and unapproved transmitter locations. Consequently, the operations of the following stations have been suspended for operating without a Certificate of Compliance, in violation of Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations 2011, L.I. 1991," portions of the NCA statement read.

NCA moves to suspend DSTV
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported earlier that the NCA moved to suspend MultiChoice Ghana's operating licence due to its refusal to lower DSTV subscription prices.
The dispute arose after the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, called for a 30 percent price reduction.
However, MultiChoice Ghana, in a letter dated Sunday, August 3, 2025, rejected the proposal, claiming that the minister's demand was untenable.
