490 NPP Youth Organisers Declare Support for Bawumia, Promise to Pick Nomination Forms for Him

490 youth organisers of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have reportedly declared their support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana's former Vice-President, in the party's forthcoming presidential primary.

This endorsement was made during a strategic meeting held on July 29, 2025, where representatives from various constituencies expressed confidence in Dr Bawumia’s leadership, track record, and vision for Ghana’s future.

According to a report by Joy News, the group of NPP youth organisers had also promised to pick up nomination forms for him on Wednesday, 13 August 2025.

This comes a few weeks after the NPP opened nomination for qualified members of the party to contest for the flagbearer race scheduled for January 31, 2026.

In a statement issued to the media, the coalition of youth organisers praised Dr Bawumia's unwavering commitment to national development.

“We believe in Dr Bawumia’s ability to build a more inclusive, resilient, and prosperous Ghana. Our pledge today is not just a political endorsement; it is a solemn commitment to securing a better future for the next generation,” they said.
“His innovative policies and forward-looking governance approach make him the ideal leader to steer Ghana beyond 2028,” they added.

Dr Bawumia's growing support amid flagbearer bid

The youth organisers' backing adds to the growing momentum behind Dr Bawumia's potential candidacy.

Earlier, it was reported in the media that over 200 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have declared their support for his candidacy.

Additionally, more than 60 NPP Members of Parliament (MPs) also threw their weight behind the former Vice President.

Dr Bawumia's supporters believe he possesses the leadership abilities and vision necessary for Ghana's development.

His endorsement by various groups within the party positions him as a strong contender in the upcoming primaries.

Other flagbearer hopefuls of the NPP

The NPP flagbearer race is expected to be competitive, with several aspirants vying for the party's nomination. Some notable contestants include:

  • Kennedy Agyapong: Former Assin Central MP and flagbearer aspirant
  • Dr Yaw Adutwum: Former Minister for Education
  • Bryan Acheampong: MP for Abetifi and former Minister of Agriculture
  • Kwabena Agyei Agyapong: Former General Secretary of the NPP
  • Boakye Agyarko: Former Minister of Energy

The NPP presidential primaries are set to take place on January 31, 2026, with the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council (NC) having announced the date after a meeting on June 17, 2025.
