The wife of Ghana’s late Defence Minister, Edward Omane Boamah, struggled to hold back tears as she mourned his tragic passing in a video gaining traction online.

Omane Boamah and seven other individuals were killed in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The group, consisting of five high-ranking government officials and three air force officers, was aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter travelling from Accra to Obuasi.

It disappeared off radar some time after taking off from Accra and was later discovered to have crashed near Sikaman, in the Adansi Akrofuom area of the Ashanti Region.

Dr Omane Boamah’s wife has stirred emotions online after she was seen mourning his sad death.

Rita Omane Boamah was seated at the residence of the late minister, with his mother beside her, as they hosted visitors expressing their condolences.

She was seated in solemn silence and wracked with grief as she fought to control her emotions.

The late Defence Minister’s mother was also seen battling her emotions over the loss of her son.

The video of the two women mourning the late politician evoked sadness on social media.

In the aftermath of the tragic crash, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh transferred Omane Boamah's mother from Koforidua to Accra for specialised medical care and to join the rest of the family in mourning.

According to reports, she had been in ill health and was expected to be hit hard by the death of her only child.

Previously, YEN.com.gh reported that Samuel Aboagye’s wife and mother broke down into tears as they mourned his death in the tragic helicopter crash.

Aboagye, a former NDC parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, was one of eight people on board a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter that crashed near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
