Ghana Helicopter Crash: Vice President Jane Naana Pens an Emotional Tribute to Victims

Ghana’s Vice-President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has expressed deep sorrow over the helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.
The tragic crash claimed the lives of five passengers, including two Ministers of State, and three crew members, who were personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces.

- Samuel Aboagye (Former Parliamentary candidate)
- Alhaji Muniru Mohammed (Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator)
- Squadron Leader Peter Anala (Pilot)
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
In her tribute shared on social media, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who made history as Ghana’s first female Vice-President, described the deceased as dedicated sons of the land who served the country diligently.
She further extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, praying that the Almighty grants them comfort and strength during this difficult time.
"With deep sorrow, we mourn the tragic loss of eight distinguished individuals in a helicopter crash yesterday at Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom area of the Ashanti Region.....These were dedicated sons of our land who served Ghana with honour and commitment," she wrote.
"On behalf of the government and people of Ghana, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. We share in your grief and pray that the Almighty grants you comfort and strength during this unimaginably difficult time. His Excellency the President has declared three days of national mourning in honour of the deceased. We call on all Ghanaians to join in this period of reflection and remembrance," she continued.

President Mahama declares national mourning after crash
In response to the tragedy, President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning in honour of the deceased.
The government has called on all Ghanaians to join in this period of reflection and remembrance, while urging the public and media to give the families privacy and space to grieve.
A statement released on Thursday, August 7, 2025, by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced that the memorial activities will begin with the laying of flowers and the lighting of candles.
This solemn act of remembrance will take place at the Ceremonial Garden in front of Jubilee House at 1:00 PM on Thursday, as stated by the Minister.
The flower laying and candle lighting will continue on Friday, August 8, 2025, to give more citizens an opportunity to pay their respects.
The three days of national mourning will conclude on Saturday, August 9, 2025, with an 'Evening of Reflections and Memorials' event, scheduled for 5:00 PM at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.

President Mahama speaks on Obuasi helicopter crash
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that President Mahama adddressed the nation for the first time following the military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.
In his speech from the Jubilee House, he called the deaths a dep loss and urged Ghanaians to unite as the country dealt with this national tragedy.
