The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has expressed his heartfelt condolences following the tragic death of his colleagues: Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and seven other individuals in a military helicopter crash near Obuasi.
In a social media post, Mr Opoku, who is also the Member of Parliament for Asunafo South, conveyed his sympathies to the families of the victims.

He described the loss of his devoted colleagues and dedicated personnel as "beyond words."
The Agric Minister prayed for strength and mercy during this difficult time.
"I am struggling to process this. My heart is heavy. I am completely devastated and dumbfounded by this terrible news. To lose such devoted colleagues and dedicated personnel to such a horrific event is just beyond words. May we all find strength in such a difficult time. Mercy!" he wrote on X.

How the helicopter crash occurred
The helicopter, a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 aircraft, went off radar shortly after takeoff from Accra en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana on Wednesday, 6 August 2025.
Later, the Chief of Staff of the Republic of Ghana, Julius Debrah, confirmed at an emergency press conference held at the Jubilee House that the helicopter had crashed, resulting in the death of the government officials and military personnel.
An emergency response team was swiftly dispatched to the crash site, where they discovered the wreckage engulfed in flames and retrieved the bodies of the deceased who were onboard the flight.
The cause of the helicopter crash remains unknown, with investigations currently underway.

- Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence.

President Mahama dispatches delegation to victims' family
Following this devastating accident, President John Dramani Mahama dispatched teams to the family homes of the victims to officially inform them of the passing of their beloved relatives.
The Vice President of Ghana, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, led a high-profile delegation to the family house of Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru in Accra.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), also led another team to the family home of Dr Edward Omane Boamah in the Eastern Region.

Ghanaian man predicts another doom for Ghana
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported earlier that a Ghanaian man, Abeku Adams Ekumfi, had predicted the national tragedy in a Facebook post made just days before the crash.
In a post dated July 28, 2025, he wrote that Ghana would be hit by a national tragedy on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
