President John Dramani Mahama could have been involved in the disastrous helicopter crash near Obuasi on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The helicopter belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) crashed at the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi South District in the Ashanti Region.

The crash took the lives of the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane-Boamah, the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Murtala Mohammed, and six others.

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, confirmed the passing of the two ministers and the six others, including three military officers who were manning the aircraft. He directed that flags should fly at half-mast.

Mahama sent Omane Boamah to Obuasi

Information gathered by YEN.com.gh suggested that President Mahama was supposed to be on the crashed aircraft, but cancelled at the last minute.

The Ghanaian leader was billed to attend the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) in Obuasi.

According to Citi FM's Ashanti Regional correspondent, guests at the event were informed that the President could not make it and had delegated Dr Boamah in his stead.

A video from the event grounds that emerged showed Mahama's photo on the banner behind the dignitaries.

In the video, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, announced that he had to leave the programme abruptly to attend to the helicopter crash.

The programme, held at Black Park near Len Clay Sports Stadium, proceeded with the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, conducting the launch.

Mahama devastated by Obuasi helicopter crash

News of the passing of Dr Omane Boamah and the seven others reportedly devastated President Mahama.

In a video, Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu indicated that the President was so down, he had to delegate Vice-President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, to lead a team to officially inform the families of the crash victims.

Prophet's warning to Omane Boamah resurfaces

Meanwhile, a Ghanaian prophet's warning to the late Defence Minister, Edward Omane Boamah, has surfaced after his death on August 5.

As reported by YEN.com.gh, a video posted on Tuesday showed Prophet Roja delivering a dire warning before the Obuasi helicopter crash.
