Ghana Navy PRO Outlines Requirements for Recruitment

The Ghana Navy has outlined specific requirements for individuals seeking to join the service.
According to Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), certain physical characteristics will disqualify applicants from joining the Ghana Navy and other branches of the GAF.

Speaking on TV3 on Monday, August 4, 2025, Captain Arhin stated that individuals with the following characteristics will not be eligible to join the Ghana Navy:
- Tattoos: Having tattoos will disqualify an individual from joining the service.
- Double Piercings: Individuals with double piercings will not be eligible.
- Bowed Legs: Those with bowed legs will be disqualified.
- Flat Feet: Individuals with flat feet will not be eligible to join the Ghana Navy.

These requirements, the Captain said, are based on medical grounds because persons with such deficiencies will struggle at military training.
"They would negatively impede your training, impede your operations and activities, and that is why you are not picked. If you have flat feet, you cannot stand on parade for some hours because we have sensitive veins under our feet, and so a flat-footed person will eventually, you might even collapse or maybe even pass out as part of the training. So this is on medical grounds," she said.

The Ghana Navy and other branches of the GAF have specific requirements for recruitment, including physical and medical standards.

Government to recruit new soldiers
Meanwhile, the Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has also disclosed that the government intends to recruit new soldiers into the Ghana Armed Forces.
He said a nationwide recruitment process will be launched in August 2025, with a new digital enlistment portal introduced.
Dr Boamah further warned the public against engaging middlemen for assistance with enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces.
Government plans to cancel military recruitment
YEN.com.gh reported earlier that the Ministry of Defence has cancelled intakes after uncovering 210 unqualified candidates in recent admissions to the Ghana Military Academy.
Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah said some trainees have been withdrawn, while others must meet outstanding enlistment requirements.
The government plans to recruit 12,000 new soldiers in August 2025 using a new digital enlistment portal.
