200,000 Ghanaian Youth to be Trained Under President Mahama's One Million Coders Programme

The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has disclosed plans to train a significant number of Ghanaian youth in digital skills.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on August 1, 2025, he announced that a deal with Huawei and Google to train 200,000 Ghanaian youth under the One Million Coders Programme had been signed.

Under the agreement, both Huawei and Google are required to train 100,000 Ghanaian youth in digital skills every year.
He added that the ministry is on track to train 50,000 people under the One Million Coders Programme by the end of 2025.

What is the One Million Coders Programme?
The One Million Coders Programme was introduced in fulfilment of a pledge made by President John Mahama during the 2024 electioneering period.
The initiative aims to equip Ghana's youth with digital skills, preparing them for roles in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) sectors.
The programme features a 50/50 gender inclusion policy, promoting equal opportunities for both males and females.

Sam George lists achievements as Communications Minister
George also used the opportunity provided by the Government Accountability Series to list some achievements by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation in the first half of 2025.
Below is a list of some of the achievements:
- Data bundle volume increased by MTN (+15), Telecel, and AirtelTigo (+10).
- MTN GHS399 bundle now gives 214GB (up from 92GB).
- Result of the Spectrum reform, revised licensing, and USD150M investment commitment by telcos.

Sam George gives Multichoice price drop deadline
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported earlier that Samuel Nartey George, gave DSTV an ultimatum to reduce prices.
He said the broadcaster’s licence would be suspended if prices were not reduced by Wednesday, August 7, 2025.
On August 1, the minister said that at he had written to the National Communications Authority about the matter.
