Chairman Wontumi Returns to EOCO for Further Interrogation

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi-Boasiko, is reportedly expected to return to the Economic and Organised Crime (EOCO) on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

The EOCO allegedly instructed the politician, known popularly as Chairman Wontumi, to report for further interrogation in an ongoing investigation into fraud and illegal mining activities.

Chairman Wontumi will be at the EOCO office in the company of his lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, to undergo the interrogation.

He was granted bail on Monday, June 2, 2025, after his lawyers met his bail conditions.

After spending six days in EOCO custody, the controversial and energetic politician appeared weak and frail as he struggled to walk without support.

In a video, he leaned on the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, for support. They were joined by Bryan Acheampong, with a crowd following behind them.

Wontumi visits NPP headquarters after EOCO release

Chairman Wontumi made his first public appearance since his release from EOCO custody.

He visited the New Patriotic Party headquarters at Asylum Down, Accra, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, to thank the leadership of the party for their support in securing his release.

Some NPP supporters warmly welcomed him to the party headquarters amid cheers and showering of praises.

Aside from the party headquarters, Chairman Wontumi also paid a courtesy call on former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at his Kanda residence.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman expressed his profound gratitude to the former Vice President for his support in securing his release.

After leaving Dr Bawumia's residence, he also visited former Agric Minister and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, to thank him.

Bryan Acheampong reportedly secured Chairman Wontumi's bail from the EOCO.

Nana Agradaa takes credit for Wontumi's release

YEN.com.gh also reported that Nana Agradaa had credited herself for Chairman Wontumi's release by the EOCO.

In the video, she claimed it was due to her anointing and visit to the EOCO on June 2 that he was a free man.
