In an interview with Kumasi-based radio station Akoma FM, the KMA boss commended the Adansi Akrofuom DCE, Mr Gariba, for leading rescue efforts to retrieve the remains of the helicopter crash victims from the scene of the accident.

He also cautioned Ghanaians against making insensitive remarks about the tragic incident towards the families of the victims.

Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi also slammed Ghanaians who have criticised the authorities for retrieving and transporting the victims' remains from the crash site in sacks instead of body bags.

He shared that the authorities went to the accident scene with body bags and urged Ghanaians to contact the management of Anglogold Ashanti and their hospital for clarification on the matter.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) boss noted that three body bags melted after they deposited the remains inside and that they could not get a helicopter or any other vehicle in the forest to assist them in their recovery efforts.

Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi shared that there were two different helicopters on standby at the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi for evacuation efforts, but they could not land in the thick forest.

The KMA boss noted that Samuel Aboagye had been in constant communication with the Obuasi MCE while in the helicopter and spoke about their challenges in landing before the tragic incident.

"Samuel Aboagye was speaking with the MCE for Obuasi on the aircraft. He told them to bring his car to the airstrip. He later said they could not land there, so they should bring the car to Oforikrom. So they made two attempts at the airstrip in Obuasi and one attempt at Oforikrom."

Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi urged Ghanaians to commend the individuals involved in the recovery efforts instead of the backlash.
