Mr Kwaku Boam said some MPs were displeased with the last-minute invitation and complained about how they were invited.

Additionally, he had an event at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra, and it was impossible to join the team in Obuasi.

"Because our responsibilities are many, I had an event at Kempinski. So I couldn’t join. That week, I also had an event which started on Tuesday. I attended, and Dr Omane Boamah was there. He left right after the President launched the programme. On Wednesday morning, my programme was supposed to continue, and I was expected to be at Kempinski. So, that’s what prevented me from putting up my name as an attendee," he added.

Pru East MP says things may have been different

During a radio interview, the MP noted that things may have been different if many MPs had opted to attend the event. He said a different aircraft would have been assigned to the team attending the Obuasi event.

"If we had more numbers, I'm sure a different aircraft would have been assigned. Because it happened when we were attending the burial of the mother of one of the MPs. Whenwe realised that the numbers were many, we changed the flight and used a bigger one," the Pru East MP said.
