GAF Helicopter Crash: Chief Imam Visits Dr Murtala Muhammed's House, Mourns With His Family

Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the Chief Imam, has paid a visit to the bereaved family of Dr Murtala Muhammed, one of the victims of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) helicopter crash.
The Chief Imam visited the bereaved family to express his condolences and also to pray for the soul of the departed.

Dr Murtala Muhammed was among the eight victims of the tragic August 6, 2025, helicopter crash.
The eight, comprising five government officials and three GAF workers, perished on their way to an event in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
Details of how the incident happened are not known; however, some residents claim they witnessed the flight crash into a tree. Following the incident, the aircraft's black box has been found.
Hundreds of prominent Ghanaian personalities have visited the homes of the deceased persons to sympathise with their families.
Chief Imam mourns with Murtala Muhammed
In a video sighted by YEN.com.gh, the Chief Imam was accompanied by Baba Sadiq and other dignitaries.
He was warmly welcomed by mourners who had also gathered at Dr Murtala Muhammed's residence to mourn their passing.

Who is the Chief Imam?
The National Chief Imam is an influential Islamic cleric, educator, peace broker, and philanthropist. The current Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, was born on 23 April 1919, first appointed to the role in 1993 and continues to serve in that capacity as of 2025.
His contributions include founding the Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu Education Trust Fund and the Islamic Peace and Security Council of Ghana (IPASEC).

Additionally, he has served as a member of Ghana's National Peace Council and has been widely recognised for his role in promoting religious harmony.
His presence at Dr Murtala Muhammed's residence will comfort his family since he is a respected figure among the Muslim community in the country.

Residents loot wreckage from crashed helicopter
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that residents from Adansi Akrofuom and its environs have reportedly looted the damaged parts of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) helicopter that crashed recently.
In a video trending online, residents were seen marching to their homes with the wreckage from the aircraft.
