Ghanaian music legend, Daddy Lumba's vigil, scheduled to take place in Kumasi on August 9, 2025, has been cancelled.

This is after the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, summoned his chiefs for a mandatory meeting which will take place on Monday, August 11, 2025.

A letter from the Asanteman Council dated August 7, 2025, said all members of the Asanteman Council, Divisional Heads, and all parties involved were expected at the Manhyia Palace at 10:00 am prompt.

The letter did not state the purpose of the meeting.

Before the directive to the members of the Asanteman Council, fans of Daddy Lumba were expected to converge at the Ashanti Regional Capital, Kumasi, for a candlelight vigil to honour the memory of the late musician.

A vigil was held earlier in Accra; however, people from the Ashanti Region decided to organise another one to honour their hero, since he hails from the region.

However, reports from @TheAsanteNation indicate that the vigil has been cancelled. It is unclear if a new date would be set.

Daddy Lumba passes away, breaking hearts

Daddy Lumba passed away at the age of 60 on Saturday, July 26, 2025. He reportedly fell ill and died at the Bank Hospital in Accra.

Scores of celebrities have rushed to his East Legon residence to express their condolences to the grieving family.

A vigil was organised in Accra by Ghana's Creative Arts industry in honour of the great highlife musician.

On Saturday, August 2, 2025, hundreds of Ghanaians and non-Ghanaian Lumba fans thronged the Independence Square to mourn the legend.

It was a solemn moment where Daddy Lumba's loved ones gathered to honour his memory after his tragic death.

First videos from the event showed almost all attendees clad in either black or red attire, wearing sad looks.

In one of the videos, some die-hard Lumba fans were spotted holding torchlights and candles while making their way to the event grounds.

Charles Kwadwo Fosu's children were also spotted at the event, seated in the front row of the candlelight vigil.

They were all dressed in black as they observed the proceedings of the ceremony held to celebrate the Makra Mo crooner.

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Daddy Lumba's grieving widow unveiled the late musician's last wish before his heartbreaking demise.

Odo Broni wept bitterly as she recalled how the deceased music legend always spoke about the unfulfilled dream that meant so much to him.
