It was an emotional moment at the Jubilee House as mourners of the late Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala arrived at the Jubilee House as the government kicked off the three-day national mourning.

The squadron leader was the pilot of Chinese-built Harbin Z‑9 military utility helicopter that crash-landed on August 6 at Adansi Sikaman, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

In an emotional video, the relatives couldn't hide their tears as they dropped flowers for the young distinguished army pilot. Reports indicated that he is survived by his wife and a two-month-old baby.

Bafemi Anala was aboard the Ghana Armed Forces aircraft with seven other passengers en route to Obuasi for the launching of the responsible cooperative mining and skills development programme when the tragedy occurred.

All eight passengers were killed after the helicopter crashed down in a forested area.

The accident, which President John Dramani Mahama described as a personal loss, claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Environment, Science and Technology Minister Dr Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Vice-Chairman of the NDC Dr Samuel Sarpong, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

KNUST mourns pilot of crashed GAF helicopter

Peter Bafemi Anala was a proud alumnus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) whose life embodied intellect, discipline, and zeal to serve his nation.

YEN.com.gh reported that KNUST, which admitted him into its Computer Engineering program before he decided to serve Ghana through aviation and military leadership, issued a statement.

Peter and his co-pilot, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, died in the helicopter crash with other high-ranking officials. They were graduates known for intelligence and academic excellence.
