Level 300 Ameco Student Loses His Life in Amedzope Hit-and-Run Incident

Tragedy struck the E.P. Amedzope College of Education (Ameco) on Tuesday, August 5, when a Level 300 student, Emmanuel Nyaku, was fatally crushed by a trailer carrying cement.
The devastating incident occurred in the afternoon on the Amedzope-Ho road, not far from the school campus.

Emmanuel Nyaku was reportedly returning home on his motorbike after dropping off a colleague on campus when the accident happened at a corner. The impact left the young student dead at the scene.
Upon hearing the news, fellow students rushed to the scene, only to find their colleague lifeless.
The driver of the trailer, however, had reportedly fled the scene before anyone could arrive, turning the incident into a hit-and-run case.
School authority suspend SRC Week celebration
In response to the tragic loss, the school has suspended its Students' Representative Council (SRC) week celebrations until further notice as a mark of respect and mourning.
Enam, a fellow student of the deceased, recounted the harrowing moments.
“We were on campus when we heard the news that an accident had occurred. So we rushed there and saw him [the deceased student] on the side of the road, dead,” she explained to YEN.com.gh.
Enam further explained Emmanuel's movements just before the accident, stating,
“He lives in a nearby town not far from the school. He had just dropped a colleague on campus after they both went to town to get some things.”
At the time of filing this report, it is not known if the trailer driver has been arrested. Efforts to speak to the police in the area have proven futile.
Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been deposited at a morgue in the regional capital, Ho, pending investigations into the incident.

UCC final -year student dies
In a related sad story, a final-year student at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Miss Candy Osei Abora, has tragically passed away.
The young woman, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree, is believed to have died in a fatal gas explosion on Monday, 19 May 2025, in Cape Coast.
While the exact circumstances surrounding her death are unclear, the news has left the university community in shock, with her coursemates, lecturers, and friends deeply mourning her loss.
Two students killed on campus
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that two students of the Nalerigu Senior High School, in the Northern Region, were reportedly shot by unidentified assailants on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
The shooting occurred when the unknown assailants unlawfully entered the school's premises.
The unfortunate incident heightened security concerns among the students, parents, and community leaders in Nalerigu.
