The president of Ghana's Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah, has confirmed the reports that Dr Murtala Mohammed has passed away. He was one of eight victims of the fatal helicopter crash in the Ashanti region on August 6, 2025.

A clip of Murtala Mohammed's last interview with Tamale-based radio station Diamond FM has stirred up sad emotions as Ghanaians mourn the late minister.
In the interview, the minister talked about the fragility of life and how he never lets a day pass without pondering over the certainty of death.

As such, the minister also established that he was not concerned about the spoils of life.
"Material vanity doesn't shape my life and my world," he said.
He was a devout muslim who upheld his faith and expressed it in all his activities. Videos of him reciting the Quran and partaking in faith-based activities have popped up as Ghanaians reflect on his life and legacy.
