St Monica’s SHS Turns Away Students Reporting to School in Taxis, Welcomes Students in Private Cars

  • Students who came in their parents' or other private cars were given unhindered access to the school, while those who came in taxis were denied entry
  • Netizens who saw the video of the students' arrival were upset and criticised the school in the comments section

A number of students returning to St Monica’s Senior High School were denied entry at the school gates after arriving in taxis.

According to eyewitnesses and affected families, school security personnel turned away students who arrived in commercial taxis, insisting that only those dropped off in private vehicles would be allowed into the premises.

The decision left some students stranded outside the school gate for hours, with many forced to alight at the gate and carry their heavy belongings, including trunks full of provisions and books, as well as their school outfits, into the school compound.

Some students felt it was unfair and discriminatory since not every parent owns a private car.

The school administration has yet to issue an official statement on the issue, but some insiders claim the measure was implemented as part of the school's security protocols.

Critics, however, argue that such a policy penalises students from less privileged backgrounds and fosters inequality.

Calls are mounting for the school to clarify its policy and ensure that all students are treated equally, regardless of their means of transportation.
