Asantehemaa One Week: Police Announce Major Road Closures For Observance
- Police will be disrupting traffic flow for the one-week observance of the late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III
- The police, in a statement, appealed to motorists and the public to cooperate with the expected diversions
- The Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, died at 98 years of age on August 7, 2025
Selected roads in Kumasi will be closed on August 21, 2025, during the one-week observance of the late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
There will also be police diversions on select roads as part of the police action.

Citi News reported that police, in a statement, appealed to motorists and the public to cooperate with the changes.
The roads set to be closed are:
- Manhyia Bonjour Road (from Airport Roundabout to Manhyia Palace)
- Sumankwahene’s Junction Road to Manhyia Palace
- Nick Petroleum Filling Station Road to Manhyia Palace
- St. Ann’s Anglican Church Road to Manhyia Palace
- Manhyia Government Hospital Road through to Alaba
- Yokohene’s Palace Street leading to the Palace
- Hyiawuhemaa’s Palace Street
- Nana Akwasi Agyemang Junction to the Manhyia Museum

There will also be traffic diversions for vehicles from Dichemso and Airport Roundabout, and cars coming via the Manhyia Bonjour Road.
Only invited guests and participants attending the one-week funeral celebration will be allowed access beyond the diversion points.
Traffic from 19 Steps Road near the Manhyia Roundabout through Alaba will also be rerouted accordingly.
About the Asantehemaa's death
The Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, died at 98 years of age on August 7.
She was the 14th Asantehemaa and the biological sister of the current Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
She marked her eighth year as the Queen Mother of the Asante Kingdom in February 2025.
The Oyoko Family confirmed the passing of the second most powerful person in Asanteman to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at an emergency Asanteman Traditional Council meeting on August 11.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III was born in 1927 at Benyaade Shrine at Merdan, a small town located at Kwadaso, Kumasi, in the days of the restoration of the Asante Confederacy.

She was born to Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, Asantehemaa, who reigned from 1977 to 2016.
Her father was known as Opanin Kofi Fofie, known popularly as Koofie or Keewuo, a carpenter by profession from Besease near Atimatim in Kumasi.

Otumfuo gets emotional after Asantehemaa's death
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II got emotional after the Asantehemaa's demise was announced on Monday, August 11, 2025.
In a video from a meeting of the Asanteman Council at the Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene fought back tears as he mourned his late sister.
Whilst announcing the news of his sister's death, Otumfuo looked overwhelmed with emotion and saddened at the passing.
King Mswati III's kids meet the Asantehemaa
YEN.com.gh reported that King Mswati III, the royal ruler of Swaziland, now Eswatini, introduced his children to Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
The entourage from Eswatini knelt and paid homage to Asantehemaa, who was flanked by a host of her queens and royal servants.
The durbar on Thursday, June 26, 2025, to officially mark King Mswati III's arrival in Ghana was one of the late Asantehemaa's last moments in public.
