Army Helicopter Crash: Support Fund For Victims’ Children Hits GH¢2.3 Million

The Children’s Support Fund set up for the welfare of the children of victims of the August 6 helicopter crash has so far received GH¢2.315 million.

Citi News reported that a public notice issued by the presidency on August 19, 2025, said Stanbic Bank Ghana made an initial seed donation of GH¢500,000.

The fund was launched by President John Mahama on August 15, 2025, to provide long-term care and education for the children of those who died in the helicopter crash on August 6.

A statement, signed by Dr Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund, said over 10 companies had donated.

The donors include Procus GH Limited, GB Foods Ghana, Sunda FM Manufacturing Ltd, Sage Distribution Ltd, Quantum Oil Terminals, Quantum LPG Logistics Ltd, Newgas Cylinder Ltd, and Quantum Terminals PLC.

Sawyerr said a full list of donors would be published weekly.

She added that donations can be made through designated accounts at Stanbic Bank Ghana in both Ghana cedis and US dollars.

Promotions for deceased officers made official

During the state funeral for the deceased officers, President John Mahama announced posthumous promotions for the three armed forces personnel killed in the August 6 helicopter crash.

On August 19, 2025, the three widows of the dead officers were presented with ranks and insignia posthumously earned by their husbands.

The officers in the crash were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah has been promoted to the rank of Flight Sergeant.

The other victims in the crash were Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, former Obuasi East parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru and National Democratic Congress Vice Chairman Dr Samuel Sarpong.

The officials were flying from Accra to Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme when the aircraft went down in a forested area.

Ghana Air Force donates to families

YEN.com.gh reported that a donation of GH¢315,000 was presented to the bereaved families.

The donation was made possible through the generosity of various well-wishers and companies who rallied behind the Ghana Air Force and the Military High Command.

A presentation ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces in Accra on August 19, where the families of the three crew members were presented with the donation.

The one-off cash donation was made to the widows, the surviving parents, and the extended families of the helicopter crash victims.
