President Mahama Meets Families of Late Air Force Airmen, Consoles Grieving Widows

President John Dramani Mahama met with the families of the three Ghana Air Force Officers killed in a recent helicopter crash to grieve over their losses.

Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaenn Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah died in the Wednesday, August 6, 2025, crash near Obuasi.
The three airmen were operating a Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Z-9 helicopter, transporting five VIPs to a programme on illegal mining in the Ashanti Region, when the aircraft disappeared off radar.
They were later discovered to have crashed into the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi Akuofrom District of the Ashanti Region, killing all eight people on board.
Aside from the Air Force officers, the five civilians killed in the crash were identified as Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru, Former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong and Former Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East Samuel Aboagye.

Mahama visits grieving Air Force widows
The Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, President John Dramani Mahama, met with the families of the three officers killed in the crash on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
Accompanied by the Vice President, Mahama spent time with the widows of the late airmen at the Army Headquarters in Burma Camp, Accra.
The widows of the deceased officers were seen looking disconsolate over the unexpected loss of their partners, while President Mahama solemly attempted to provide any solace he could.
Images from the event evoked sadness on social media, as Ghanaians commiserated with the widows of the killed soldiers.

Many government officials, including the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, Communications Minister Sam George, YEA CEO Malik Basintale, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and his Deputy, James Gyakye Quayson, attended the sombre event.
