The invitation sighted by YEN.com.gh on August 7 said all chiefs were expected to attend without fail.

The meeting notice comes amid speculation of a major bereavement in the Asante kingdom.

The Asanteman Council is the highest traditional authority in Asante.

Its membership comprises the Asantehene, Asantehemaa and the heads of the traditional areas, and Amanhene within Asanteman.

The speculation around the meeting follows the August 6 helicopter crash that killed eight persons, including the ministers for Defence and Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

About the Ghana Army helicopter crash

The crash occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District during a trip to Obuasi for a state event.

Emergency response teams rushed to the crash site following the incident, but the terrain meant it took hours to reach the site, with indigenes of the community the first to arrive.

An eyewitness at the crash site said the helicopter was flying at an unusually low altitude.

One other man said the aircraft hit a tree. A man in the nearby town said he heard the sound of the helicopter passing by, followed by a loud bang.
