Bawumia Mourns Tragic Deaths From Ghana Army Helicopter Crash: "Heart-Wrenching News"

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has extended his condolences following the tragic helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region that killed eight people.
The former presidential hopeful said the victims of the crash had paid the ultimate price in service to Ghana.

In a statement, Dr Bawumia said he had personally called President John Mahama following the crash.
"I know most of the deceased personally and equally feel a sense of loss to see their demise under such horrid circumstances.
Samira, I, the Bawumia family, and the NPP join the nation in mourning them. May the good Lord grant the bereaved families, the Government and people of Ghana strength and healing in this time of tragedy."
The crash occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom district. The Ghana Armed Forces Z‑9 helicopter was en route to Obuasi. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the crash.
The five civilians in the crash were identified as Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru, Former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong and Former Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East Samuel Aboagye.

The army personnel involved in the crash were identified as Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah. Their bodies have since been retrieved and flown to Accra.
Former presidents express condolences after helicopter crash
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor also expressed deep sorrow over the deaths in the crash.
In a statement issued following the incident, the former statesman said he was upset by the loss.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, and colleagues of all those who perished in this tragic incident."
The former President further urged Ghanaians to honour the memory of lives lost with compassion and unity.
Former President Nana Akufo‑Addo also paid tribute, saying he too was saddened by the helicopter tragedy.
In a statement, he extended his condolences to Mahama, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and the families of the victims.
Eyewitness recounts army helicopter crash
Meanwhile, an eyewitness at the accident scene said he and others discovered six bodies after arriving at the scene.
He noted that some personnel from the Ghanaian military, the Local Assembly Member for Sikaman, and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, had arrived at the crash scene to assess the situation.
According to him, the helicopter lost its balance as it hit a tree and a mountain before going down in flames in the thick forest in Adansi Akrofum.
Mourning declared for Ghana army helicopter crash victims
YEN.com.gh reported that three days of national mourning were declared from August 7, 2025, in honour of victims of the helicopter crash.
In a statement, the presidency said all official activities and engagements of the President for the remainder of the week had been suspended.
