Daddy Lumba's teacher surfaces
A remarkable figure has captured the attention of Ghanaians in the days following the passing of highlife icon Daddy Lumba.
On Friday, August 1, 2025, a 77-year-old woman visited the late musician’s East Legon residence to commiserate with his family.
Her presence sparked curiosity and admiration when it was announced that she was none other than Daddy Lumba’s former music teacher.
The elderly woman, full of grace and composure, taught the Ofon Na Ɛdi Asɛm Fo crooner how to sing during his days at Juaben Senior High School, where she nurtured his raw vocal talent.
Many believed it was under her guidance that Charles Kwadwo Fosu, later known as Daddy Lumba, developed the foundation for what would become a legendary music career.
But her influence didn’t end there. She also taught and mentored other prominent Ghanaians, including former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong; the Minister for Foreign Affairs and North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and former Adansi-Asokwa MO, K.T. Hammond, proving that her impact spans both the creative arts and politics.
Her visit to Lumba's residence was more than a condolence call; it was a full-circle emotional moment that reminded Ghanaians of the unsung heroes behind their icons. Her story is a beautiful testament to the power of teachers and the legacies they help create.
