Details of Daddy Lumba's vigil

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has officially confirmed that a national candlelight vigil in honour of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

According to a flier making the rounds on social media, the ceremony will take place at the Black Star Square in Accra, a venue spacious enough to welcome the thousands of fans and sympathisers expected to pay their respects to the Mensei Da hitmaker.

The vigil, dubbed the National Candlelight Vigil, is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. and will feature a series of activities to celebrate the life and legacy of the iconic musician.

Tributes, performances of Lumba's timeless songs, and reflections from industry peers are expected to headline the evening.

Daddy Lumba's death

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60, at the Bank Hospital in Accra.

His death sent shockwaves across the country, with fans, dignitaries, and fellow musicians mourning the loss of a true highlife legend.

In the days following the announcement of his passing, scores of Ghanaians, including celebrities, politicians, and fans, have visited his East Legon residence to express their condolences and commiserate with his family.
