The late highlife musician, Daddy Lumba, known privately as Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, was born and raised in Nsuta, a town in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

He was born to Comfort Gyamfua, popularly known as Auntie Ama Esah, a teacher and gospel singer.

Daddy Lumba's deep love for music is believed to have been inspired by his mother, who introduced him to gospel music during his early years.

He once shared in an interview that he began his musical journey as a gospel singer, but his transition into highlife was influenced by his long-time friend and bandmate, Nana Acheampong.

Daddy Lumba's aunt speaks on his childhood

A woman identified as Abena Dansi, said to be the sister of Daddy Lumba’s mother and considered an auntie of the late musician, was recently interviewed by Happy FM, an Accra-based radio station.

Speaking from Ashanti Mampong, Nsuta, she described the late musician as her son and pointed out the exact house where Ama Esah had been born.

In the video, she mentioned that Daddy Lumba used to visit the village occasionally and always found his way back, although all the relatives who once lived in the house had since relocated to Accra.

“Daddy Lumba is my son. His mother is my biological sister," she stated.
"She was born here; that house over there is where Ama Esah was delivered as a baby. Lumba used to live here occasionally.
All the family members who were staying have now moved to the city, Accra.”

Abena Dansi appeared aged and physically weak in the video sighted by YEN.com.gh. In the same interview, she said:

“Daddy Lumba is my son. His mother is my biological sister. She was born here; that house over there is where Ama Esah was delivered as a baby. Lumba used to live here occasionally. All the family members who were staying have now moved to the city, Accra.”

Daddy Lumba’s death and cause remain private

Daddy Lumba passed away at the age of 60 on July 26 at the Bank Hospital in Cantonments, Accra, where he had been receiving treatment for a brief but undisclosed illness.

His health declined in recent years, but his family requested privacy, stating that the cause of death and other details, including the funeral, were still being kept confidential.
