Controversial preacher Nana Agradaa, born Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, was jailed by an Accra Circuit Court for 15 years with hard labour on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
She was convicted on two counts of defrauding by false pretences and one count of charlatanic advertisement.
Nana Agradaa’s case stemmed from a 2022 televised broadcast during which she falsely claimed to possess spiritual powers capable of doubling money.
Numerous people attended her church and handed over huge sums of money to her in the hope of having it doubled, but left with nothing.
The case was heard by an Accra Circuit Court, which sentenced Nana Agradaa after being found guilty on all charges.
On 18 August, news emerged that President Mahama had granted amnesty to 998 prisoners.
Reports immediately went viral that Nana Agradaa was one of those pardoned, stirring mixed reactions online.
Speaking in an interview, CSP Abdul Latif debunked the reports, noting that Nana Agradaa does not yet qualify to be granted amnesty.
He said prisoners qualify for amnesty after serving at least half of their terms, which Nana Agradaa had yet to do.
He added that if she reaches that criterion, she might be eligible to receive amnesty if she is selected by a panel of prison officers who make such decisions.
CSP Latif also said the amnesty process was carried out before Nana Agradaa was jailed, making it impossible for her to be one of those pardoned.
