Murtala Mohammed's daughter breaks hearts during tribute

The youngest daughter of the late Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed broke down in tears during the reading of a tribute to her father.

The heartbreaking moment occurred as the family mounted the podium to honour the late politician, whose life was tragically cut short along with seven others in the military helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom on August 6, 2025.

Dressed in white, the grieving little girl clung to her mother and elder sister, visibly shaken as the words of remembrance were read.

A photo of the emotional scene drew tears from many Ghanaians on social media, with many sympathising with the late MP’s young family.

Murtala Mohammed was laid to rest with full state honours, as government officials, party faithful, colleagues, and loved ones gathered to pay their last respects.

For Murtala Mohammed’s family, however, the loss is most deeply felt in the eyes of his inconsolable daughter, a reminder of the human cost of the nation’s tragedy.

August 6 helicopter crash victims honoured

YEN.com.gh also reported that the three Ghana Air Force personnel who tragically lost their lives in the August 6 military helicopter crash have been honoured with posthumous promotions in recognition of their service and sacrifice.

President John Mahama, speaking at the state funeral on August 15, said this was the highest mark of respect the nation could bestow upon the fallen officers, praising their dedication and assuring the families that their legacies would live on.

The President also announced the creation of a Children’s Support Fund to provide educational and welfare assistance to the children of the crash victims, to ensure the dependents would receive care and opportunities in their parents' stead.
