A Ghanaian military pilot known as HeliPilotGH shared his experience flying the Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9 helicopter during one of the routine checks by the security agency.

Military pilot shares experience flying GAF helicopter

HeliPilotGH shared a video on TikTok showing his followers what it felt like flying a helicopter about 1,500 feet up in the sky above the city.

In the video, two pilots were in the cockpit, where they sat and controlled the helicopter, while another one sat behind them.

Speaking about being in the air, the pilot mentioned that it felt quiet and it was just the rotor above their heads that produced a lot of sound.

"You feel the vibration, every gust of wind. You are not just flying, you are balancing all the invisible forces," he said in the video.

The talented pilot further stated that flying helicopters and displaying in the air could not be likened to the 1986 action movie, Top Gun.

"You do not just 'drive' helicopters, as people say. You fight Physics and you win. Every single flight is a fight against science. This isn't 'Top Gun'. It is real. And my God, it is beautiful," he said.

The video, however, emerged during a period of national mourning, following the tragic Adansi Akrofuom helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, which claimed eight lives, including senior officials and military personnel.

Ghanaians tour Accra on a military helicopter

YEN.com.gh also reported that the Ghana Armed Forces delighted many with a captivating video showing civilians enjoying an aerial city tour aboard one of the military’s official helicopters.

In the footage, contrasted against the recent tragedy, passengers were seen boarding the aircraft, fastening their seatbelts, and soaring above the city skyline as the pilot skillfully operated the aircraft.
