In the aftermath of the tragic Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region, preparations are underway to airlift samples of the remains of the eight victims to South Africa for advanced DNA identification.

Remains airlifted to South Africa for DNA analysis
The fatal crash claimed the lives of several high-profile individuals, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Tamale Central MP Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and two military pilots. Other casualties included a military technician, a protocol officer, and two security aides.

On Thursday, August 7, 2025, key government officials and dignitaries, including businessman Ibrahim Mahama, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, and Lands Minister Emmanuel Kofi Buah, were present as final preparations were made for the transport of the charred remains.
The solemn occasion marked another painful moment in Ghana’s history, as the nation continues to mourn the tragic loss of these patriotic figures.

Many wondered that after so many years, the country still resorted to using South Africa as the avenue for DNA testing.
Others also hailed business mogul Ibrahim Mahama for offering his private jet to be used to fly samples of the remains of the deceased heroes to South Africa for DNA testing.

Helicopter crashes in Kenya
YEN.com.gh reported that an AMREF helicopter crashed in Mwihoko, Kiambu County, around 2:00 p.m., causing panic among residents in the area. Emergency response teams, including the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), police, and the Kenya Red Cross, swiftly arrived at the scene to launch rescue and recovery efforts.
Dramatic footage from the accident site captured the smouldering wreckage, thick smoke, and the tireless work of first responders as they battled the fire and assisted victims at the crash site.
