Tragic scenes unfolded in Obuasi on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, as military personnel solemnly evacuated the remains of Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six others who lost their lives in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) helicopter crash.

Remains recovered from Obuasi helicopter crash site
The nation is in mourning following the tragic crash of a military helicopter en route to Obuasi, which claimed the lives of five government officials and three crew members.
According to a press release from the GAF, the Z-9 helicopter took off from Accra at 9:12 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, before crashing near Sikaman, in the Adansi Akrofuom area of the Ashanti Region.
Videos trending on social media showed the helicopter bursting into flames on impact, with all passengers on board perishing. The military has since retrieved the remains, some of which were severely burnt.
Eyewitnesses described the aftermath as heartbreaking. The crash site was cordoned off for several hours as military personnel conducted recovery operations.
In a solemn moment, soldiers carefully carried the bodies of the victims, while awed onlookers stood in silence, grieving the national loss.
Ambulances were also on standby to help transport the remains to the morgue before a befitting funeral would be held in their honour.
The tragic event has plunged the country into sorrow, with tributes pouring in from citizens, dignitaries, and Ghanaians abroad.
Meanwhile, the cause of the crash is currently under investigation by military and aviation experts.

Omane Boamah prophecy resurfaces after helicopter crash
