Akuapem Poloo recounts Nsawam Prison experience

In an exclusive interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Akuapem Poloo mentioned that she was sentenced to 90 days at Nsawam Prison. However, she only served 17.

Sharing her experience at the prison, the socialite noted that it might not be an easy experience for Nana Agradaa, no matter how tough she is.

"Even when they push you into the yard, your spirit will leave your body, " she said.

Akuapem Poloo likened Nsawam Prison to a boarding house, describing it as neat, given it houses only women, and cleanliness, she said, was part of a woman’s nature.

She added that one aspect that made life difficult for her was not having the chance to see and speak to her son, Mudasir Muhammed Yakubu.

The mother of two mentioned that bedtime is 5 p.m. and wake-up time is 5 a.m. She further stated that only the prison wardens have the power to lock and unlock the cells.

While narrating what life is like inside the can, she explained that a roll call is conducted every morning to establish head count before the inmates leave their cells. The wardens do the same in the evening.

"Some go out to work. There are farms. Because I was new, I was not allowed to join them. We were 24 in one cell and 73 in one block"

Akuapem Poloo disclosed that feeding will be a major problem for Agradaa as she should not expect tea for breakfast. Only porridge and bread is served. To compound matters, eating three times a day is considered a privilege as inmates get to eat only twice on most days.

Still on the same show, she explained that inmates are guaranteed the freedom to worship. She further stated that the cells are spacious enough. For Akuapem Poloo, she used this luxury to do her signature dance moves.

"We had a flat screen in every cell. When I was leaving, my cell had a faulty one, so I bought one for them."

In April 2021, Ghanaian actress and social media personality Akuapem Poloo was sentenced to 90 days in prison for posting an inappropriate photo with her son on social media, which was deemed to violate Ghana's laws on child protection and public decency.
