Agradaa Files Application to Transfer Empress Gifty’s Defamation Case to Eastern Region

Controversial televangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa or Evangelist Mama Pat, has filed an application in her ongoing GH₵20 million defamation case with gospel musician Empress Gifty.

The Heaven Way International Ministries founder's husband, Angel Asiamah, and legal team appeared before the Tema High Court on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
Empress Gifty's husband, Hopeson Adorye, was also present with his wife's lawyers at the court for the case hearing.
Agradaa files application in defamation case
Following the conclusion of the court hearing, Empress Gifty's lawyer, Patrick Tawiah-Amprofi (Esq), addressed the media on the events that transpired inside the Tema High Court on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
He noted that Agradaa's lawyers had filed the new application, stating that their client's current place of residence is the Nsawam Prison in the Eastern Region of Ghana, where she is currently serving a 15-year sentence with hard labour.

In light of this, the embattled televangelist's legal team requested that the case be transferred to a court within the Eastern Region, in accordance with legal procedures.
Patrick Tawiah-Amprofi (Esq) noted that he and his team had taken notice of the recent appeal Agradaa filed against her 15-year jail sentence and questioned if it would impact her request for a change of location in her defamation lawsuit case.
He said he would raise arguments against the application during the next hearing at the Tema High Court and that he did not believe the venue of the court proceedings would affect the root of the legal case.
The lawyer clarified the difference between the defamation case and the recent case that landed Agradaa in prison.
Empress Gifty's lawyer added that he and his client would push for an injunction after the court hears the televangelist's application and makes its decision.

Agradaa appears in court for bail hearing
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Agradaa appeared in the Amasaman High Court for her bail application hearing on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
In a video, the televangelist hid her face as she was whisked away into a van by uniformed security personnel after the court denied her bail request.
Agradaa's sighting at the Amasaman High Court garnered mixed reactions from Ghanaians on social media, as her prison sentence continues to trend.
